Two trusty Schippers met about twenty years ago. They were young and grew up with some rigid views of the world, but their silly sides attracted them to each other.

In 2013, they visited their first "Real Tiki Bar." Over the years, this definition, for them, has come to mean a bar created with the intent to transport guests to another world. Requirements include nods to classic and modern adaptations of tiki drinks, a collection of tiki mugs, and enough kitsch to make you wonder where you are.

Dan's maternal grandparents' last name is Schipper, the Dutch version of "Skipper." His great-grandfather was one of these sea guys and a few of their family members have prints of the ship he called home.  It's complicated, but there are even a few acquaintances on Jill's side with the same name.

When they bought their house, one of the requirements was a space that could house a secret tiki bar. They found it and Covid lent itself as the perfect opportunity to see it through. In 2021, the right furniture and Imagineering came together to open the door to Schipper's Lounge.

More than anything, those two Schippers really just want to enjoy a space with friends that encourages everyone to forget their everyday obligations and appreciate each other's company.
